Product Update – April 25, 2012

  • Anise – Quality is perfect and there is plenty with light demand.
  • Artichokes – Green Globes, slightly frosted.  Ample supplies of large chokes through the week, then sizing will fall off.
  • Asparagus – Supplies will be tight as Mexico is done, poor weather in California last week has caused some quality issues.
  • Berries – Baja winding down, Oxnard is running strong, Watsonville starting in a light way.  Raspberry/Blacks from Mexico.  Org strawberries steady but light supplies with demand exceeding.
  • Blueberries, AWESOME!
  • Broccoli – We will have a lot of broccoli this week.  We will pay for it in a few weeks.  Fields are ahead of schedule. Quality is good.
  • Cauliflower – sizing , quality and color is good.  Market will remain steady.
  • Celery – seeders are prevalent, large sizes are tight.  Deals to be made in 36ct celery and this size will show very minimal seeders.
  • Leaf – Quality is fair in leaf. Romaine, some blistering.  Huron winding down, Salinas slow to start.  Quality may be an issue on romaine for a week or so.
  • Lettuce – Poor quality. Small sizes, not anything fancy for the next week or so!  Keep it close to needs and don’t get too excited!
  • Navels – we will have good navels and also great Late Navels.
  • Clementines – last week of packing.
  • Lemons – fresh and clean in Oxnard.
  • Carrots – running small due to being still in the winter crop.
  • Potatoes – Red, Yellow and white going strong in the desert.
  • Melons – Mexico cantaloupe are running, sugar is light.
  • Peaches – Early peaches but not very fancy.
  • Grapes – Expect the first in a few weeks.
  • Cherries – I will update later this week.
